An elderly man, Devendra Goyal, passed away after consuming a poisonous substance at a public hearing in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh. Goyal had visited the Collectorate to address complaints about encroachment on his shop. Despite previous attempts to seek help from officials, no action had been taken on his grievances.
Family members attributed Goyal’s extreme step to the alleged negligence of authorities, leading to his critical condition and eventual demise during treatment. Following the tragic incident, members of the Agarwal community and locals protested at Jai Stambh in Sheopur, demanding accountability and justice.
The protest, which included calls for the removal of Tehsildar Manisha Mishra, caused disruptions in the city with road blockades and closed markets in solidarity. Despite efforts by senior administrative officials to engage with the demonstrators, the protesters stood firm in their demands for punitive measures against the responsible officials.
Congress MLA Babu Jandel participated in the protest, advocating for a murder case to be filed against the Tehsildar. Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari echoed the sentiment, urging a thorough investigation and compensation for the bereaved family. Patwari highlighted the need for a prompt and unbiased inquiry into the incident, emphasizing the importance of addressing public grievances effectively.
