The Election Commission of India has taken action against nearly 10 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu for inaccuracies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Notices have been sent to rectify the information provided during the revision process to ensure eligible voters are not excluded from the final list.
During the verification process, approximately 97 lakh names were removed from the draft electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu. Voters were required to fill out specific SIR forms, but around 10 lakh cases lacked accurate details or were filled incorrectly, leading to notices being issued for clarification and additional documentation.
To assist voters in compliance, the Tamil Nadu government has streamlined procedures for obtaining necessary certificates. The Revenue Department has announced that all certificates needed for electoral roll corrections will be provided free of charge until January 25, with estimates suggesting a significant number of voters across the state requiring additional documentation.
