The Election Commission of India has set the schedule for the bye-election to the Datia Assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh. The last date for filing nominations is July 13, with polling scheduled for July 30. This bypoll is necessary due to the disqualification of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti, leaving the Assembly seat vacant.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will occur on July 14, and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is July 16, as per the Commission’s notification. Polling, if needed, will take place on July 30 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the election process concluding by August 4.
The Election Commission clarified that the bypoll was triggered by the disqualification of Rajendra Bharti under the Representation of the People Act and the Constitution, resulting in the vacancy of the 22-Datia Assembly Constituency seat. The constituency gained attention after Bharti’s victory over senior BJP leader Narottam Mishra in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
