The Election Commission of India has set the schedule for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, with polling on June 18 and vote counting on June 22. The process includes the issuance of notifications on May 25, nomination filing by June 1, scrutiny on June 2, and withdrawal by June 4.
Seventeen Local Authorities’ Constituencies will see elections to fill vacancies left by members whose terms expired. The upcoming polls aim to address the backlog of vacancies since 2022, with one seat from Nagpur also up for election on June 18 due to a resignation.
The elections were delayed due to criteria not being met, but now, all 17 affected constituencies have fulfilled the required thresholds for functionality and electors. The Model Code of Conduct is in effect, restricting policy announcements and government ads until the election cycle ends on June 25.
