The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed retired IPS officer N.K. Mishra as Special Observer to oversee the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal. Mishra has been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to the Commission’s guidelines during the revision process. He will monitor the revision, poll preparedness, and the upcoming General Election to the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal in 2026.
Mishra’s visits to West Bengal will be coordinated with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manoj Kumar Agarwal, who will provide necessary support and arrangements. The ECI has instructed Mishra not to issue any appreciation letters to election officials during his tenure as Special Observer. Any such recommendations should be forwarded to the Election Commission for consideration.
The deadline for hearing sessions on claims and objections related to the draft voters’ list ends on Saturday. Document scrutiny from these sessions will continue until February 21. The final voters’ list resulting from the revision exercise that commenced in December last year will be published on February 28.
