The Election Commission of India (ECI) dismissed Trinamool Congress’ allegations that notices sent to Lok Sabha member Dev and cricketer Mohammed Shami were meant to harass them. The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal clarified that both were summoned for hearings due to blank linkage columns in their enumeration forms. This clarification revealed that Dev and Shami were called as “unmapped voters.”
The Trinamool Congress had raised concerns about the notices issued to Dev and Shami, claiming it was harassment. Specifically, the party questioned how a notice could be sent to a three-time Lok Sabha member like Dev. Similarly, they argued that serving a notice to Shami, a former Indian cricketer, was unfair considering his contributions to the sport.
The ECI, on Wednesday, provided a detailed explanation for summoning Dev and Shami for hearings under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process.
