The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that out of 60 lakh cases categorized as “logical discrepancy,” 32 lakh cases have undergone judicial adjudication in West Bengal. Approximately 53% of the total referred cases have completed this process, with around 40% found excludable. Excluded voters will have the opportunity to appeal to one of the 19 Appellate Tribunals set up for this purpose.

Currently, more than 700 judicial officers, including 100 from Odisha and Jharkhand each, are overseeing the adjudication process. The final voters’ list in West Bengal, published on February 28, had already removed 63,66,952 names. With an additional 12.80 lakh names found excludable through adjudication, the total deletions now amount to about 77 lakh.

Before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) notification last November, West Bengal had 7,66,37,529 voters. Subsequent revisions saw deletions, with the final voters’ list on February 28 showing 63,66,952 deletions. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the ECI during an election rally, alleging harassment of tribal and backward class communities through the revision exercise.
