The Election Commission of India (ECI) Secretary, Binod Kumar, announced the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise nationwide to ensure transparent and accurate electoral rolls. In a meeting with officials in Aizawl, including District Election Officer (DEO) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Kumar emphasized the importance of diligent and transparent conduct during the SIR. He urged officials to follow rules meticulously and distribute Enumeration Forms promptly.
Kumar’s meeting aimed to review SIR preparedness and address any concerns or provide guidance to officials. Detailed instructions were provided on the official procedures for the SIR, with Aizawl District Election Officer, Lalhriatpuia, presenting the district’s progress. Aizawl District comprises 12 Assembly Constituencies and 324 Polling stations, with Kumar visiting a polling station post-meeting.
Following the ECI’s announcement on May 14, seven Northeastern states, including Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, and others, have initiated preparations for the SIR of electoral rolls. The Phase-III schedule of the SIR, covering 16 states and three Union Territories, aims to enhance voter list accuracy and transparency. Assam has already completed a similar exercise, with final electoral rolls published on February 10, 2026, covering all 126 Assembly constituencies.
