The Election Commission of India has mobilized more than 25 lakh officials to oversee the upcoming Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory. This massive deployment aims to ensure a peaceful and fair electoral process. With over 17.4 crore eligible voters, there is approximately one election official for every 70 voters.
To facilitate the smooth conduct of polling in multiple phases, the ECI has organized a workforce comprising various personnel. This workforce includes polling staff, security personnel, counting staff, micro observers, sector officers, and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has stressed the importance of neutrality among officials to uphold the integrity of the elections.
The election machinery is further supported by a vast network of BLOs and a dedicated call center service for addressing complaints and queries. The Commission has also deployed Central Observers across Assembly constituencies to monitor the electoral process closely. These observers, including General Observers, Police Observers, and Expenditure Observers, are tasked with ensuring transparency and addressing any election-related issues.
