The Election Commission of India has announced that all polling stations for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states and one Union Territory will have assured minimum facilities and comprehensive voter assistance. These facilities include amenities like drinking water, waiting areas, toilets, lighting, ramps for persons with disabilities, voting compartments, and clear signage. Chief Electoral Officers have been directed to ensure these facilities at all 2,18,807 polling stations.
To enhance voter awareness, Voter Facilitation Posters containing polling station details, candidate lists, guidelines, identification documents, and voting procedures will be displayed at all polling stations. Voter Assistance Booths staffed by officials will help voters locate their polling booth and serial number in the electoral roll. Additionally, a mobile phone deposit facility will be available for voters outside polling stations for added convenience.
The Election Commission emphasized the importance of strict compliance with these guidelines to ensure a smooth electoral process. It stated that the provision of assured minimum facilities and accessibility measures is mandatory and will be monitored closely across all polling stations. Field functionaries have been instructed to complete necessary works well in advance to ensure a pleasant voting experience for all electors.
