The Election Commission of India’s Special Roll Observer, C. Murugan, remained resolute despite facing multiple attacks on his vehicle. Murugan, undeterred by the protests in South 24 Parganas district, emphasized his commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to him by the poll panel.
Following protests at a Special Intensive Revision hearing center in Magrahat, South 24 Parganas district, Murugan’s vehicle was targeted by a crowd of mostly women, resulting in damage to the car. Despite the disruptions, the Special Roll Observer reiterated his determination to carry out his duties.
During his visit to Shirakol High School for the ongoing hearing, Murugan encountered further protests regarding the implementation of the SIR exercise. The Election Commission official faced demands from local protesters, including the entry of Trinamool Congress-run Booth Level Agents-2 into the hearing sessions.
“I am here to do a job assigned to me by the Election Commission, and I will complete that task, no matter the attempted disruptions,” stated Murugan in response to the incidents of public anger during the SIR exercise.
It was not the first time that Murugan faced such challenges, having previously encountered protests in Falta and Haldarpara. A detailed report on the recent incident will be submitted to the Election Commission by the office of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer.
