Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar met with Benin’s Ambassador to India, Erick Jean-Marie Zinsou, to discuss collaboration in election management and staff training. The meeting, held at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi, focused on enhancing cooperation as outlined during the IICDEM, 2026. Both parties agreed to strengthen election management and training initiatives.
During his acceptance of the Chairship of the Council of Member States of International IDEA for 2026, Gyanesh Kumar emphasized India’s rich democratic legacy and the Election Commission of India’s extensive experience in conducting fair elections. He highlighted the Commission’s role as a constitutional body responsible for organizing elections at various levels, including for the President, Vice President, Parliament, and state legislatures.
Gyanesh Kumar underscored India’s robust electoral system, which serves over 900 million voters across 28 states and eight Union Territories. He noted the Election Commission’s massive scale during the Lok Sabha elections, where it mobilizes over a million personnel nationwide, making it one of the largest election management bodies globally.
