The Electric Vehicles (EVs) market in Gujarat has experienced significant growth, showcasing the state government’s commitment to transitioning to renewable energy. Record-breaking sales of EV vehicles were reported in the past financial year, indicating a shift towards eco-friendly transportation. The popularity of EVs is on the rise in Gujarat, evident from the increased sales of both two- and four-wheeled electric vehicles.
EV owners and buyers in the state attribute their choice to environmental concerns and the benefits of electric vehicles. Factors such as lower RTO registration fees for EVs and the cost-efficiency of running on electric charging have driven the adoption of EVs. The Gujarat government’s subsidies and tax incentives for EVs have played a crucial role in driving this growth.
The government’s focus on ‘Green Initiatives’ in the recent budget has further propelled the EV market in Gujarat. Tax exemptions, subsidies, and the expansion of charging infrastructure have piqued public interest, particularly among the middle class. The cost-effectiveness of operating an EV has also contributed to the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the state.
Sales figures reflect a positive outlook for the EV market in Gujarat, with a notable increase in sales over the past year. Approximately 5,545 EVs were sold in the state last year, with a significant surge to 8,577 sales in the first quarter of this year alone. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to reduce petroleum consumption, EV inquiries have surged, leading to a substantial spike in sales and registrations.
