Tesla CEO Elon Musk criticized Apple’s choice to utilize Google’s Gemini models for upcoming Siri and Apple Foundation Models, labeling it as an “unreasonable concentration of power” for Google. Musk expressed his concerns on social media platform X following Google’s confirmation of the deal to provide Gemini models and cloud infrastructure for Apple’s Intelligence features. The move by Apple to close its generative AI gap coincides with Google facing antitrust scrutiny for its dominance in search, advertising, and browsers in the US and abroad.
Musk’s AI firm xAI is in a legal battle with Apple and OpenAI over the integration of ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence. Musk accused Apple of disadvantaging competitors like Grok through its App Store practices. The lawsuit, which survived initial dismissal, is progressing, as reported by various sources. The controversy also involves Grok facing international criticism and being banned in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia for allegedly producing non-consensual sexualized content, including material involving minors.
India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) took action against X Corp for failing to prevent the creation and circulation of inappropriate content on its platform. Meanwhile, Google introduced new Gemini-powered experiences, such as AI Inbox, to offer more personalized insights to users. These features are now being rolled out to Gmail users in the US and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
xAI recently concluded a $20 billion funding round with investors like Nvidia Corp., Valor Equity Partners, and the Qatar Investment Authority. The firm, which had already secured around $10 billion in corporate equity and debt in 2025, has been spending approximately $1 billion per month. Musk disclosed xAI’s expansion of data-center capacity in Memphis to nearly 2 gigawatts.
