Emergency medical teams were active during Ahmedabad’s 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra, responding to a total of 53 incidents. Fainting was the most common issue reported, with 18 cases, followed by seven requiring first aid, and five each for falls and breathing problems. The medical teams also attended to cases like road traffic accidents, convulsions, abdominal pain, vomiting, and headaches.
EMRI 108 ambulances and emergency response teams were strategically positioned along the Rath Yatra route to provide immediate medical assistance. Patients needing further treatment were transferred to nearby hospitals after initial care, while others received on-site treatment. The increase in fainting cases was attributed to the large crowds and devotees spending extended periods outdoors for the annual event.
The 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra commenced from Shree Jagannathji Mandir in Jamalpur, following traditional ceremonies like the ‘Pahind Vidhi.’ The procession, carrying idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, traversed Ahmedabad’s customary route, attracting devotees from Gujarat and beyond. Extensive security measures, including a significant police presence and advanced surveillance technologies, were in place for the event.
