An employee of a private bank met a tragic end in West Delhi’s Janakpuri when he fell into a pit meant for a Delhi Jal Board project while riding his bicycle. The victim, identified as Kamal Dhayani, 25, was found along with his bike in the four-meter-deep pit on Joginder Singh Marg the next morning.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident and suspended three officials in connection with the tragedy. An FIR has been filed to probe any possible negligence and assign accountability for the unfortunate event.
The incident, reminiscent of a recent similar fatality in Noida, has stirred political controversy in Delhi. The opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the government of negligence, prompting the Delhi Water Minister to order a thorough inquiry into safety lapses at the project site.
Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh has taken a stern stance on the alleged safety violations and has suspended the area’s Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Junior Engineer pending further investigation. A high-level Inquiry Committee has been set up to ensure a transparent examination of the circumstances surrounding the accident.
