Employers in India are providing significant pay premiums for AI skills, as per a report by Indeed. While 66% of employers offer higher salaries for AI-skilled roles, 54% of AI-exposed workers have not experienced this increase. Organizations reveal that AI roles command premiums ranging from 11% to 50% over non-AI roles.
The report highlights that 36% of professionals with daily AI exposure saw no change in their pay, and 18% experienced a decrease. Despite external job market incentives, internal compensation cycles for AI talent lag, affecting mid-career and senior professionals. Sashi Kumar, Indeed India’s Managing Director, emphasizes the importance of retaining and motivating upskilled employees.
Only 11% of respondents mentioned a complete transformation in their roles due to AI, while 65% noted moderate changes. About 51% stated that AI influenced their job preferences, indicating proactive career adaptations with AI advancements. Employers increasingly prioritize demonstrable AI skills and certifications over traditional degrees when evaluating candidates for AI roles.
