Two days after the Enforcement Directorate summoned former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his son Raninder Singh in a 2016 FEMA case, the officer in charge of the agency’s Jalandhar office has been transferred. A Ministry of Finance order states that Additional Director Ravi Tiwari, an IRS officer, has been moved from Jalandhar to Chennai, with Dinesh Pachauri taking over the Jalandhar post.
Amarinder Singh and his son are accused of benefiting from foreign assets, including a Swiss bank account. While Amarinder Singh was summoned to appear on Friday, his son was scheduled for Thursday but sought an exemption due to his father’s health after a knee surgery.
Raninder Singh was previously summoned by the ED in 2020 regarding alleged fund movements to Switzerland and a trust in the British Virgin Islands. The Income Tax Department had filed a charge sheet against the duo in 2016, accusing Raninder Singh of benefiting from foreign assets and foreign bank accounts in Switzerland.
