The Enforcement Directorate has issued a notice to former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Subhashish Chakraborty regarding an investigation into three frozen bank accounts holding a total deposit of Rs 440 crore. Chakraborty, currently the treasurer of a faction within the party, has been asked to appear at the ED’s Salt Lake office in Kolkata this week.
Chakraborty, upon receiving the notice, requested time to consult with party leaders before attending the interrogation. The ED had previously summoned directors of a private aviation company in connection with alleged fictitious transactions from one of the party’s bank accounts.
According to ED officials, the Trinamool Congress had engaged the private aviation company for aircraft services, with funds amounting to over Rs 160 crore transferred from one of the frozen accounts. Despite legal efforts to lift the freeze on the accounts, debit restrictions remain in place until further notice.
