The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called in former West Bengal education secretary Manish Jain and expelled Trinamool Congress leader Kuntal Ghosh regarding the SSC teachers’ recruitment corruption case. They are required to appear at the ED’s Kolkata office next week as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a related development, the ED had previously summoned former state education minister Partha Chatterjee and his associate Arpita Mukherjee for questioning in the same case. Kuntal Ghosh, who was arrested earlier by the ED and CBI in connection with the primary teachers’ recruitment scam, is currently out on bail.
Manish Jain, who had been questioned by the CBI earlier in the recruitment corruption case, had cooperated with the agency during the investigation. The ED has reportedly intensified its probe into the recruitment scams and plans to summon more individuals linked to the case later this month.
The ED has scheduled further questioning for Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee on March 16 and March 18, respectively. It is notable that Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the ED in July 2022 for his alleged role in the multi-crore SSC teachers’ recruitment scam.
