The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called in Madan Mitra’s wife and two sons for questioning regarding the multi-crore municipality job scam in West Bengal during the previous administration led by Mamata Banerjee. The ED’s investigation into recruitment irregularities in the Kamarhati Municipality led to the summoning of the family members.
They are required to appear at the ED’s Kolkata regional office at Salt Lake next week for interrogation. Earlier in June, ED officials conducted searches at Mitra’s residences in South and North Kolkata. Mitra, a Trinamool Congress legislator, has been representing the Kamarhati constituency for multiple terms.
Simultaneous raids were also carried out at seven other locations in and around the state capital. In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently filed a chargesheet against a former West Bengal Minister and his son in connection with the same case. The investigation revealed unauthorised assets worth over Rs 100 crore linked to a middleman involved in the scam cases.
