Incarcerated Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid has announced his decision to resign from the Lok Sabha due to his inability to fulfill his constituency duties. However, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) will consult the public before making a final decision. The AIP plans to gather feedback from its grassroots cadre on Rashid’s intention to step down.
The AIP’s Committee on Political Affairs has conducted detailed discussions and decided to engage party members across all 18 Assembly segments of the Baramulla parliamentary constituency. This consultation process aims to determine whether Engineer Rashid should continue as a Member of Parliament or step down. The party may even conduct a secret ballot to ensure members can freely express their opinions.
According to AIP’s chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, the party will involve office-bearers at various levels to interact with the public and gather opinions. The final decision regarding Engineer Rashid’s future as an MP will be based on the sentiments expressed by the people during this consultation process. The party emphasizes that decisions should reflect the wishes and trust of the electorate.
Reaffirming the AIP’s commitment to internal democracy, Nabi highlighted the importance of public accountability in major political decisions. The party believes that the collective wisdom of its cadre and the public should guide significant choices. The consultation process is crucial in determining Engineer Rashid’s parliamentary position, ensuring that the voices of party workers and voters are central to the final outcome.
