A first-year engineering student in Chintamani town, Karnataka, was reportedly assaulted by a group that entered her house following an altercation with two men she accused of harassing her. The victim, identified as S. Meghana, suffered injuries in the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Mother and Children Hospital in Chintamani.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday evening when Meghana, who also teaches dance at a local high school, was returning from work. She alleged that two men harassed her on the road, prompting her to defend herself by pushing them away and slapping them. Later, a group of around 10 to 20 individuals, including Karthik, Vinod, Shalini, and Kavya, invaded her family’s house and assaulted them.
Meghana recounted that the group, enraged by her actions against the two men, subjected her and her family to physical violence, including tearing her clothes, attacking her with a knife, and issuing threats. Despite lodging a complaint with the police, the victim claimed that her mother was warned of severe repercussions if they pursued legal action. An FIR has been filed, and the authorities are actively investigating the matter to apprehend the perpetrators.
Authorities are reviewing video evidence of the incident captured on a mobile phone. While the police have not released an official statement regarding the allegations, an investigation is ongoing to address the assault and the subsequent threats made to the victim’s family.
