Uncapped left-arm spin bowling all-rounder James Coles has been selected for England’s T20I team for the upcoming series against India, starting on July 1 in Durham. The squad, led by Harry Brook, also includes Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, and Saqib Mahmood, who missed the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton are out due to injuries.
James Coles, known for his performances in T20 competitions, has been a standout player. With 1,373 runs in 61 T20 innings at an average of 28.60 and a strike rate of 146.37, he brings a strong batting record. Additionally, he has taken 53 wickets at an average of 26.94 with the ball.
National selector Marcus North praised Coles’ selection, highlighting his recent performances. The larger squad selection aims to provide flexibility post the Test series against New Zealand. The series against India will begin soon after the Test series, allowing England to adapt to the schedule.
The England-India T20I series will kick off in Durham, followed by matches in Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton. The quick turnaround for some players, like Brook and Bethell, poses a challenge due to the tight schedule. The series promises an exciting clash between the two cricketing giants.
