Enhanced security measures have been put in place at 919 sensitive locations in Gujarat ahead of the Muharram festival. Authorities are focusing on intensified surveillance, risk assessment, and coordinated deployment to maintain peace during the festival period. Police officials are conducting risk assessments in areas with a history of incidents during Muharram over the past five years to strengthen preventive policing measures.
A video conference chaired by the Director General of Police, G. S. Malik, was held to review law and order arrangements for Muharram processions and Tazia routes. Police Commissioners, Range Heads, and District Superintendents of Police participated in the meeting through virtual mode. Instructions have been given to enhance vigilance in sensitive areas, especially those marked for special monitoring during Tazia processions.
To ensure real-time monitoring and rapid response capability, police units are preparing comprehensive security deployment plans with maximum technological support. Additional SRPF companies and platoons have been deployed across the state as part of the security arrangements. Ground-level presence is being strengthened with police personnel assigned for intensive foot patrolling in sensitive areas.
Technological surveillance has been expanded using drones, CCTV systems, and body-worn cameras to monitor large gatherings and procession routes. Police personnel on duty are required to wear body-worn cameras for accountability and real-time event recording. Authorities are also monitoring social media platforms to prevent the spread of rumors or misinformation that could disrupt communal harmony.
Traffic regulation and crowd management plans have been established to minimize disruptions to public movement during the processions. The security measures aim to maintain law and order in sensitive and high-footfall areas during Muharram through coordinated efforts between field units and central control mechanisms.
