Patna, Aug 7 (IANS) The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police on Friday conducted simultaneous searches at four premises linked to Ajit Amar, the District Programme Officer (DPO) of Saharsa, in connection with a disproportionate assets case, an official statement said.

According to a statement issued by the Bihar Police Headquarters, the EOU registered case no 17/26, dated Aug 6, against Ajit Amar after verifying information received from reliable sources.

The case has been registered under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.

The EOU said its preliminary investigation found that Ajit Amar had allegedly acquired assets worth Rs 62.20 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to the agency, the alleged disproportionate assets are approximately 72.35 per cent higher than his legitimate income. Based on verification of financial records and other documents, the agency said a prima facie case was established.

Following the registration of the case, the EOU obtained search warrants from the Special Court (Vigilance), North Bihar, Muzaffarpur, and launched coordinated search operations on Friday morning.

Separate teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officers conducted simultaneous raids at four locations linked to the accused officer.

The searches were carried out at his ancestral residence in Raini village under the Daraunda police station area of Siwan district, his rented accommodation in Naya Bazar, Saharsa, his office chamber in Saharsa, and his government residence in Gandak Colony, Chhapra.

According to the EOU, the searches are aimed at collecting evidence on the accused’s movable and immovable assets, bank accounts, investments, financial transactions, and other relevant documents.

Officials are also examining electronic devices and records as part of the investigation. Ajit Amar is currently posted as the District Programme Officer in Saharsa.

The registration of the disproportionate assets case and the simultaneous raids have drawn attention within the Education Department and administrative circles.

The EOU said the search operation was continuing and that details regarding any cash, jewellery, land documents, bank records or other assets recovered would be disclosed after it is completed.

The agency added that if further evidence of disproportionate assets or suspicious financial transactions emerges during the investigation, the scope of the probe may be expanded.
