Domestic equity markets, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE, will be closed on Thursday due to the Eid al-Adha holiday. Trading activities across various segments such as equities, derivatives, and currency will remain suspended for the day. Trading is set to resume on Friday, May 29, following the holiday.
In 2026, a total of 16 stock market holidays are scheduled, with eight already observed. After the closure on Thursday, seven more trading holidays are left for the year. The next market holiday is scheduled for June 26, in observance of Muharram.
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will be closed in the morning session but will resume trading in the evening. Similarly, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed for the entire day. On the previous trading day, headline indices closed flat due to geopolitical uncertainties related to the US-Iran situation, impacting investor sentiment.
The 30-share index fell over 100 points to settle at 75,867.80, while the Nifty closed at 23,907.15, down 6.55 points. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers, with a net inflow of Rs 3,821 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) turned net sellers, resulting in a net outflow of Rs 1,042.70 crore.
