European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President Kaja Kallas has arrived in India for her first official visit. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the visit’s importance in enhancing the India–EU Strategic Partnership amidst ongoing high-level engagements. This visit follows increased diplomatic interactions between India and the European Union to deepen cooperation in the face of global uncertainties.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Kallas to India, emphasizing the significance of the visit in strengthening bilateral ties. The recent discussions between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Ambassadors from EU member countries focused on the current global environment characterized by instability and rapid changes. Jaishankar advocated for closer India–EU collaboration to address global challenges and stabilize the international order.
The upcoming State Visit by European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as Chief Guests at India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations underscores the milestone in India–EU relations. India anticipates hosting the EU leaders, who will co-chair the 16th India–EU Summit on January 27. The visit will include meetings with Indian dignitaries and discussions on economic cooperation and trade at the India–EU Business Forum.
