Event organizer Tanay Shastri, currently facing a harassment case, has served a defamation lawsuit notice to Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty. Shastri has demanded Rs 20 lakh in compensation from Chakraborty or warned of legal consequences. Chakraborty has not responded officially to the notice.
Last month, Chakraborty was scheduled to perform at an event organized by Shastri in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas district. Allegedly, she was removed from the stage by Shastri due to time constraints, leading to a police complaint by Chakraborty for harassment. In turn, Shastri filed a counter-complaint, stating that Chakraborty failed to arrive on time for the performance.
Following the incident, Shastri and two others were arrested on charges of harassment and obstructing the police investigation. Shastri spent over a week in judicial custody before being granted bail on February 11. With the defamation notice served to Chakraborty, a legal battle between the two seems imminent.
