Several Maryland delegates, including Harry Bhandari, emphasized the Ramayana’s moral teachings and their relevance in today’s society. Bhandari viewed the epic as a guide to character, sacrifice, and inner peace, emphasizing its lessons on family values and humility. The exhibition aimed to offer insights into addressing social fragmentation and mental well-being challenges in contemporary times.
Delegate Mike Roger, a military veteran with extensive Asian travel experience, noted the commonalities shared through cultural traditions. He stressed the importance of learning about shared values to foster mutual respect and global harmony. Diplomatic voices, such as Aruna Ghising from the Embassy of Nepal, highlighted the Ramayana’s global reach, underscoring its connections across continents and diverse cultures.
Organizers strategically placed the exhibition within the state legislature to educate policymakers and staff on the broader Asian civilizational context of the Ramayana. Utsav Chakrabarti of HinduAction emphasized Maryland’s diverse population, with significant Hindu, Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Filipino communities. The exhibition aimed to enlighten legislators about the civilizational bonds fostered by the Ramayana among various faith groups and ethnicities.
Dr. Vidya Sathiamoorthy, a pathologist and HinduAction volunteer, brought the exhibition to Maryland after successful displays at the US Capitol and the Ohio State Capitol. Sathiamoorthy highlighted the Ramayana’s enduring moral principles that resonate across generations and borders. The exhibition, featuring contributions from 11 countries, showcased the widespread celebration of the epic in over 16 nations, emphasizing its message of unity, duty, sacrifice, and family values.
