An entire family of five tragically lost their lives in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh. The incident involved a man who killed his wife and mother before taking his own life on a railway track. His two children, who tried to save him, were also fatally struck by a passing train. The heartbreaking event unfolded at Venkatakrishna Palem panchayat in Narayanavanam mandal.
The man, identified as Mohan, first strangled his wife, Harita, and his mother, Chandrakala, at their residence in Chakali Veedhi. Mohan’s wife was a 33-year-old who ran a tailoring shop and a beauty parlour, while his mother was a 65-year-old housewife. Following the murders, Mohan deceived his children, Kaushik (14) and Harini (12), by falsely claiming their grandfather had passed away.
The grim discovery was made when Harita’s brother, Balakrishna, visited their home. Balakrishna, who assisted Mohan in a cement shop business, became concerned when Mohan failed to return after leaving to get lunch. Upon finding the lifeless bodies of Harita and Chandrakala, Balakrishna alerted the authorities, prompting a search for Mohan.
After picking up his children from school, Mohan took them on a fateful journey through Chittoor and Tirupati districts before arriving at Vepagunta railway station in Puttur mandal. There, Mohan tragically ended his life by placing his head on the railway track as the train approached at high speed. Despite the children’s desperate attempts to save their father, all three were fatally struck by the train.
The motive behind Mohan’s actions, including the murders and suicide, remains unclear. Initial investigations suggest that Mohan did not face financial difficulties and was mentally stable. However, he had borrowed money from his sister and had reportedly arranged for its repayment on the day of the tragic incident. Authorities have launched investigations into the case, with Narayanavanam police handling the family’s deaths and railway police addressing the fatalities on the railway track.
