Five members of a family from Ahmedabad tragically lost their lives, and six others were injured in a car accident on the Unjha-Mehsana highway near Unava in north Gujarat. The family, returning from a wedding in Rajasthan to the Ramol area of Ahmedabad, collided with a divider due to the driver losing control of their Eeco car near Unava. The impact of the crash resulted in severe damage to the vehicle.
Among the victims, four individuals, namely Ramlal Kumawat, Kailash Kumawat, Komal Kumawat, and a child, died at the scene, while an elderly woman named Mantharadevi succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Mehsana Civil Hospital, bringing the total death toll to five. The driver and five other occupants sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The family, originally from the Pali district in Rajasthan with connections to Bhavnagar, currently resides in Ahmedabad. Authorities from the Unava police station swiftly responded to the incident, conducting rescue operations with the assistance of local residents. Post-mortem examinations were scheduled for the deceased, and the authorities have filed a case of accidental death.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with temporary traffic disruptions on the highway until the damaged vehicle was cleared. This unfortunate incident follows another recent tragedy in Valsad district where seven individuals, including five members of a single family from Amba Jungle village in Kaprada, lost their lives when their Maruti Eeco car collided with a truck on a ghat stretch.
