A 20-day farmers’ agitation in Jaipur, demanding water release from the Panchna Dam into irrigation canals, concluded after Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Kirodi Lal Meena promised water release within six days. Meena, at a Mahapanchayat in Wazirpur subdivision, assured that water would flow into canals by July 1, benefiting farmers for Kharif and Rabi crop seasons. He pledged to join farmers in a sit-in protest at the dam site if water did not reach the canals by the deadline.
The protest, attended by a massive gathering of farmers, women, youth, and elderly residents, became one of the largest farmers’ movements in recent years. Dr. Meena commended the protesters for their discipline and unity during the 20-day agitation, which brought the issue to the forefront. Dausa MP Murari Lal Meena highlighted the unprecedented scale of the movement, emphasizing the deep connection of the issue with regional sentiments.
Public representatives from both BJP and Congress supported the farmers at the Mahapanchayat. Gangapur City MLA Ramkesh Meena urged farmers to trust Minister Kirodi Lal Meena’s leadership, ensuring water reaches the canals. The Mahapanchayat committee officially suspended the agitation following the minister’s assurance, with farmers awaiting the water’s arrival by July 1 to determine their next steps.
