National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, stated that his party will not plead with any political group from Jammu and Kashmir to join their protest in Delhi for the reinstatement of statehood. The NC has decided not to extend invitations to any Jammu and Kashmir political parties for their demonstration in Delhi. “Whoever wishes to participate in the protest is welcome to do so. We are not approaching anyone with a begging mentality,” Abdullah emphasized.
The NC has announced plans for a protest in Delhi during the Monsoon session of Parliament to demand the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, also the party’s Vice President, has called on INDIA bloc constituents to support the protest. Dr. Abdullah affirmed that unity prevails among all concerning the issue of statehood.
Responding to inquiries about the potential reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, Dr. Abdullah expressed uncertainty, stating that only Allah and those in power in Delhi hold that knowledge. He reiterated the party’s commitment to fighting for the restoration of special status, emphasizing their ongoing efforts and constitutional right to protest against perceived injustices.
During a lengthy meeting, NC legislators decided to organize a protest march at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on the first day of the Parliament’s monsoon session. Estranged NC MP, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, confirmed his participation in the protests but stressed that the primary demand should focus on restoring Article 370 of the Constitution to Jammu and Kashmir. The NC has excluded Ruhullah Mehdi from its meetings since his public criticism regarding the party’s fulfillment of election promises made in its 2024 manifesto.
