The Reserve Bank of India’s data shows that the usage of FASTag annual passes on highways has surged to 19% of all toll pass traffic, marking a six percentage point rise in the last six months from about 13% in December 2025. In June this year, the total vehicle trips through toll gates reached 44.4 crore, with annual passes contributing 8.4 crore trips, generating Rs 7,214 crore in revenue.
In June 2025, FASTag recorded 38.6 crore trips, collecting Rs 6,973 crore. Despite a 15% growth in volume, the value growth was at 3.5% due to the increased use of annual passes. The impact on toll gate collections is approximately 10%, offset by annual pass revenue, resulting in an effective loss of 7-8%.
The FASTag annual pass, priced at Rs 3,075 and offering 200 highway trips annually at around Rs 15.40 per trip, is a cost-effective option compared to regular toll rates. Private passenger vehicles, constituting 40% of toll gate traffic and contributing 25% of revenue, are eligible for this pass, while commercial vehicles like trucks and buses pay higher tolls.
Designed for regular travelers on specific highways, the FASTag annual pass streamlines travel by providing unlimited access to designated toll roads for a year, eliminating the need for per-trip charges. This pass, catering to high-frequency users, offers both convenience and cost savings at toll plazas nationwide.
