The victim’s father referred to the Chief Minister as his elder brother and expressed confidence in his dedication to the matter.
The accused, Pravas Mondal, was killed in a police encounter while attempting to flee. The victim’s father described Mondal as a notorious individual in the area, known for his unruly behavior and constant intoxication. He supported the police action, stating that such punishment was fitting for someone who had committed heinous acts against a minor girl. The local community shared similar sentiments regarding the encounter.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Ratna Debnath, the mother of another rape-murder victim, commended the police for their actions. She emphasized the importance of such measures in preventing future tragedies involving minor girls. Debnath expressed satisfaction that justice had been served to the parents of the victim girl, highlighting the necessity of decisive actions to protect vulnerable individuals.
Pravas Mondal was taken to the crime scene for reconstruction, where he allegedly seized a service rifle from a police officer and attempted to escape. In the ensuing chase, Mondal fired at the police with the stolen rifle, prompting the officers to respond with gunfire. Mondal sustained bullet injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital following the encounter.
