FC Barcelona announced that head coach Hansi Flick has signed a contract extension until at least June 2028. Flick confirmed the agreement during a press conference before the La Liga trip to Alaves. The 61-year-old may lead the club for five years, with a possibility of staying longer if both parties are satisfied.
Flick, who joined Barcelona in July 2024, succeeded Xavi Hernandez. In his debut season, he secured the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, and the Copa del Rey. Subsequently, Barcelona won another Spanish Super Cup and defended the league title this season, finishing ahead of Real Madrid by 11 points.
Despite challenges like playing at the Olympic Stadium due to Camp Nou renovations, Flick excelled in integrating youth players like Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal. He introduced 13 academy players to the first team in the past two years. Flick now aims to conquer the Champions League after previous setbacks against Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages.
