A female lawyer lodged a complaint against ex-Trinamool Congress councillor Bappaditya Dasgupta at Patuli Police Station in Kolkata’s southern outskirts, accusing him of orchestrating an assault on her. She stated that she was attacked with a knife and pressured to drop the case involving Bappaditya. The police have initiated an investigation based on her allegations, although no FIR has been filed against Bappaditya yet.
Bappaditya, the former Trinamool councillor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, has been apprehended by Patuli Police on various charges, including assault and coercion. The complainant, who is engaged in legal proceedings against Bappaditya, claimed that she is being coerced to withdraw from the case as she is contesting against him. She reported receiving death threats recently due to her profession and had notified the Patuli Officer-in-Charge, Kolkata Police Commissioner, and other authorities about the situation.
The woman was reportedly assaulted by miscreants while en route to Patuli Police Station to file a complaint the previous night. She sustained multiple stab wounds on her hand during the attack. Notably, a case has been filed against Sourav Ghosh, the Trinamool Youth President of Bappaditya’s ward in Patuli, along with Bappaditya. Both individuals have been taken into police custody.
Bappaditya, who previously served as the councillor of ward number 101 in Kolkata Municipal Corporation, switched from BJP to Trinamool Congress in 2010. He was elected as a councillor for the first time in 2015. Following the 2021 Assembly elections, he faced accusations of vandalizing residences belonging to BJP supporters.
