The FICCI Northeast Advisory Council has expressed approval for the Union Budget 2026-27, citing it as a comprehensive plan for economic advancement and job creation. Chairman Ranjit Barthakur commended the budget for its support towards priority regions, manufacturing, infrastructure, tourism, sustainability, and reforms, aligning with the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.
Barthakur highlighted the budget’s focus on public capital expenditure, manufacturing, MSMEs, and infrastructure as foundational for long-term growth and employment. He emphasized the significance of investing in human capital through education, healthcare, and skill development, especially beneficial for regions like the Northeast. The Council also welcomed the budget’s initiatives on inland waterways and multimodal logistics to enhance connectivity and reduce logistics costs.
Ghanshyam Dhanuka, Chairman of FICCI Assam state council, praised the budget for its specific initiatives benefiting Assam and addressing national priorities. He particularly appreciated the proposed development of Buddhist circuits across various states, foreseeing benefits in tourism infrastructure and local employment generation. Dhanuka also lauded reforms aimed at improving the business environment in Assam, which would boost investor confidence and support enterprise-led growth.
Joydeep Gupta, Co-Chairman of FICCI Assam state council, welcomed the budget’s focus on digital and technology-driven growth with regional implications. He highlighted measures like tax incentives for cloud services and enhanced safe harbour thresholds, positioning India as a global data and cloud hub. Gupta also mentioned region-specific initiatives such as promoting agarwood as a high-value product to enhance rural livelihoods and exports.
Larsing Sawyan, Co-Chairman of FICCI Northeast state council, noted the budget’s emphasis on sectors like tourism, sports, skilling, and agriculture, foreseeing positive outcomes at the grassroots level. He mentioned initiatives such as tourism infrastructure development, the Khelo India Mission, and support for high-value agriculture and MSMEs as contributors to long-term growth and job creation in the Northeast. Overall, FICCI praised the Union Budget 2026-27 for its blend of technology, sustainability, regional strengths, and reforms aimed at fostering inclusive economic growth.
