Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar has shared insights into her upcoming film ‘Daayra,’ featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan. Gulzar emphasized the importance of authenticity in the project, ensuring that each character resonates as relatable and genuine. The casting process for ‘Daayra’ aimed to create a realistic world with diverse and authentic characters, meticulously brought to life by Casting Director Taran Bajaj and the Assistant Directors.
Taran Bajaj, the Casting Director of ‘Daayra,’ revealed that Gulzar’s vision focused on authenticity, depth, and a profound understanding of human psychology in the actors. The film boasts a cast of 75 speaking roles, carefully selected to align with Gulzar’s creative perspective. Casting across various age groups and regions, including a 17-year-old debutant in a significant role, presented a notable challenge, requiring talent from different parts of India to blend seamlessly.
The casting process for ‘Daayra’ involved considering around 90 theatre actors, with a strong emphasis on talent from esteemed institutions like the National School of Drama. Even actors with minor roles underwent rigorous auditions to ensure the perfect fit for their characters. Additionally, the film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and is scheduled for a theatrical release on 18th September.
