Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway project will significantly boost connectivity to major industrial and logistics hubs, enhancing economic activity and infrastructure development in the region. This greenfield project, a key initiative under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I, aims to provide high-speed and seamless connectivity between Bengaluru and Chennai, two prominent economic and industrial centers in India.
During her visit to the expressway corridor as part of the ‘Pragati Path Yatre Darshan’ program in Karnataka’s Devanahalli, FM Sitharaman highlighted that the project will improve access to major industrial and logistics hubs like Hoskote, Malur, Bangarpet, the Narasapura Industrial Area, and the Aerospace and Defence Parks. Additionally, it will enhance connectivity to the proposed Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Dobbaspet through the Bengaluru Ring Road network.
FM Sitharaman, accompanied by leaders of the Karnataka BJP, underscored the NDA government’s focus on developing modern infrastructure to drive economic growth and enhance the quality of life for citizens. The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, a flagship project of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, has been identified as a priority corridor under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
Originating at Hoskote near the junction of National Highway-4 and National Highway-207 in Karnataka, the project is set to strengthen connectivity between key industrial clusters in Karnataka and neighboring Tamil Nadu. The Karnataka segment of the expressway, spanning approximately 71 km, is divided into three packages: Hoskote-Malur (26.4 km), Malur-Bangarpet (27.1 km), and Bangarpet-Bethamangala (17.5 km).
FM Sitharaman emphasized that projects like the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway underscore the government’s dedication to developing world-class transport infrastructure that promotes industrial growth, enhances logistics efficiency, and fosters regional economic integration.
