Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted three key duties aimed at boosting the economy and supporting the underprivileged. She emphasized the need to accelerate economic growth by enhancing productivity and competitiveness, fulfill the aspirations of the people, and ensure equitable access to resources. Presenting the Union Budget 2026-27, she stressed the importance of empowering every family, community, region, and sector.

Sitharaman also mentioned the ongoing “Reform Express” and its role in fulfilling these duties. The budget proposed interventions in various sectors, including scaling up manufacturing, rejuvenating industrial sectors, and promoting infrastructure development. The Finance Minister emphasized the significance of embracing new technologies while maintaining a balance between ambition and inclusivity.

Notably, Sitharaman, the first woman Finance Minister in India, presented the budget in Parliament for the ninth consecutive time. The budget is expected to prioritize capital expenditure, particularly in sectors of strategic importance due to current geopolitical factors.
