In Karnataka, Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy revealed the approval of proposals for setting up 1,243 EV chargers with an investment of Rs 123.26 crore under the PM E-DRIVE scheme. Bengaluru has emerged as a key EV charging hub in India, and Kumaraswamy encouraged other states to actively join in promoting clean mobility initiatives.
Proposals totaling Rs 503.86 crore have been sanctioned for the installation of 4,874 EV chargers across different states and Central Public Sector Enterprises. Notable approvals include those from public sector oil companies like HPCL, IOCL, and BPCL, as well as states such as Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
India is progressing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and aims for Net Zero emissions by 2070, as emphasized by the Prime Minister. The automotive sector in India plays a significant role, contributing over 7% to the GDP, nearly half of the manufacturing GDP, and supporting around 30 million jobs, thus playing a crucial part in the country’s transition towards clean mobility.
