A first information report (FIR) has been lodged against Trinamool Congress MLA Ratna Chatterjee, who is also the party’s candidate, for vandalism at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Behala (Paschim) Assembly constituency in Kolkata. The FIR was filed on the Election Commission of India’s instructions amid the ongoing Assembly polls in West Bengal.
The incident involved alleged unprovoked attacks by a group of Trinamool Congress supporters, led by Chatterjee, on the BJP office, leading to tension in the area. Scuffles between BJP and Trinamool Congress supporters occurred, with BJP candidate Dr. Indranil Khan also present at the scene. Subsequently, the BJP supporters protested at the local police station and filed a complaint against Chatterjee.
Chatterjee refuted the allegations, claiming that the tension arose after BJP supporters removed and destroyed Trinamool Congress posters and decorations. She, in turn, filed a counter-complaint against the BJP at the police station. Despite being the outgoing legislator from a neighboring constituency, Chatterjee was nominated by Trinamool Congress in Behala (Paschim) this time, replacing the former legislator due to his involvement in a corruption case.
