Fire has been ongoing for the fourth consecutive day at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) well in Andhra Pradesh’s Dr B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. ONGC teams are working to control the blowout at the Mori-5 well in Irusumanda Village, Malkipuram Mandal. The fire intensity has decreased, allowing ONGC personnel to move closer to the well for implementing the blowout control plan.
Firefighters are still dousing the well with water as efforts continue. It is anticipated that it will take a few more days to completely extinguish the fire. ONGC reported significant progress in the blowout control operations on Wednesday. The company is focusing on controlling the blowout at Well Mori-5, operated by contractor Deep Industries.
The Crisis Management Team of ONGC is following the approved blowout control plan. An approach road has been completed at the wellsite to aid in debris clearance, and logistics are in place for systematic debris removal. A water blanket has been set up at the site to assist in debris removal and prepare for capping the wellhead as part of the action plan.
