A fire erupted at a plastic scrap yard near Chopadva village in Bhachau taluka of Gujarat’s Kutch district, leading to a significant firefighting operation and causing alarm in the vicinity. Thick smoke billowed from the site as the blaze intensified rapidly due to the large amount of plastic stored there. Local officials reported that the fire started suddenly at the plastic yard near the village.
Firefighters from the Bhachau Fire Department promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving the alert and commenced efforts to contain the flames. They utilized water jets and initiated cooling procedures to prevent the fire from spreading further. Two fire tenders, including vehicles from the Bhachau municipality and a private company, were engaged in the operation to control the fire.
The presence of plastic materials in the yard accelerated the fire’s spread, posing challenges for the firefighting teams. During the operation, firefighters discovered four gas cylinders among the plastic stock, which were safely removed in time to avert a potential explosion that could have resulted in casualties or additional damage. Authorities mentioned that the swift removal of the cylinders helped prevent a major accident.
Efforts to fully extinguish the blaze are expected to take several hours due to the substantial amount of plastic material at the site. Firefighters continued their operations for an extended period to bring the situation under control. While no casualties have been reported thus far, officials noted that the fire might have caused significant financial losses at the facility.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation will be conducted once the situation is stabilized. This incident occurred following a series of fire emergencies in different parts of Gujarat, including a major fire at a chemical company warehouse in Surat and a fire in the parking area of a building near Science City in Ahmedabad.
