Panic ensued at a railway station in Rohtas district, Bihar, as a fire suddenly erupted in a general coach of the Sasaram–Patna Fast Passenger train (53212) on Monday morning. The fire, believed to have started due to a short circuit in the fifth coach, quickly engulfed the entire coach while the train was stationed at Platform Number 6 before its scheduled departure at 6:45 A.M. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as passengers had already disembarked from the affected coach before the fire spread.
Railway officials, in conjunction with the local fire department, promptly responded to the situation and initiated firefighting efforts. Despite the rapid spread of flames, the blaze was eventually brought under control, leading to the detachment of the damaged coach from the train. Eyewitness Rajesh Kumar noted that the fire escalated swiftly after smoke was initially detected, expressing concerns over the delayed arrival of Railway staff and the fire brigade, which, according to him, exacerbated the situation.
Authorities from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) disclosed that they were alerted about the fire around 6:00 A.M., following which firefighters successfully contained the blaze. An RPF Inspector in Sasaram mentioned that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire that led to a delay of nearly two hours in dispatching the train to Patna after the burnt coach was removed. Inspector Sanjeev Kumar further reassured that the fire was confined to a single coach, promptly extinguished, and resulted in no injuries among passengers or railway personnel.
