Around 50 individuals were saved from a commercial complex in Ahmedabad following a fire outbreak at Shangrila Arcade near Shyamal Crossroads. The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m., leading to a rapid response from multiple teams of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services. Thick smoke and flames engulfed the building, leaving occupants stranded on various floors.
Rescue operations involved evacuating nearly 50 people from different levels of the complex, including those trapped in areas filled with smoke. Four women were found unconscious due to smoke inhalation and were promptly taken to the hospital. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
To combat the fire, the fire department deployed a total of 38 vehicles and approximately 138 personnel. The operation included the use of ladders, hydraulic platforms, and various firefighting equipment to ensure the safe evacuation of everyone trapped inside. Firefighters worked diligently to clear the building floor by floor while containing the flames.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated near an ATM and an external electric board outside a branch of Kotak Mahindra Bank on the ground floor. The rapid spread of the flames was fueled by combustible materials and vehicles in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses described the fire intensifying rapidly, necessitating a quick evacuation of the premises.
Authorities temporarily closed the road connecting Shyamal Crossroads to Prahladnagar to facilitate emergency operations and ensure public safety. Following the successful containment of the blaze, firefighters continued cooling operations to prevent any potential re-ignition. An investigation has been initiated by police and fire officials to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess safety protocols at the commercial complex.
