About 50 students were rescued from a coaching institute in Hyderabad’s Ameerpet area after a fire broke out in a commercial complex. The incident took place at Maitrivanam in the city center, with students trapped in an IT coaching institute on the second floor. Fire-fighting personnel, aided by ladders, successfully rescued the students as the blaze triggered panic in the busy area.
Authorities closed down shops in the complex and sent students from other coaching institutes in the building home following the fire incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in a panel board on the ground floor, leading to smoke engulfing the first and second floors.
Despite the challenging situation, no injuries were reported, and the police have initiated an investigation into the incident. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency Commissioner, A.V. Ranganath, attributed the fire to a short circuit and emphasized the importance of fire safety measures.
HYDRAA, along with the Fire Services and GHMC, recently launched a campaign to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations in buildings. Ranganath highlighted the need for all structures to implement necessary safety measures within a month, with safety inspections set to commence from the following month.
