Fire safety inspections at coaching centers and educational institutions in Ahmedabad have been increased following the recent fatal fire incident in Lucknow, where 15 lives were lost. The blaze in Lucknow engulfed a three-story building housing a coaching institute, resulting in tragic consequences. Rescue efforts recovered multiple bodies, with injured individuals receiving medical attention.
In response to the Lucknow tragedy, Uttar Pradesh authorities launched a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe to determine the fire’s circumstances and address safety and building regulation violations. The state initiated a broader crackdown on coaching centers and educational establishments in various districts, conducting inspections and sealing actions.
Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services conducted targeted inspections at tuition classes, coaching institutes, and other educational institutions to assess fire safety measures. The inspections focused on verifying basic fire safety provisions like fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and electrical safety systems. Authorities issued notices to establishments with identified deficiencies in fire safety arrangements.
During the inspection drive in Ahmedabad’s North-West Zone, multiple institutions were examined for compliance with fire safety standards. Notices were issued to several establishments, including popular coaching institutes and educational centers, highlighting gaps in fire safety measures. The drive also revealed that Navkar Digital Institute’s fire safety certificate had expired, leading to its closure as per regulations.
Fire officials emphasized the importance of maintaining functional fire safety equipment, clear evacuation routes, and valid compliance documentation in educational spaces with high student traffic. They warned of continued enforcement actions against entities failing to meet safety regulations.
